TVS Board Transition FAQ's

  • Does the church intend to maintain the school’s position as a strong, independent school?

The current relationship between the church and the school will not change. While there will be changes to the membership of the board at TVS, the school will continue to have the necessary latitude to ensure its strength as a member of the Florida Council of Independent Schools – just as it always has enjoyed.

  • What is the long-term vision and growth strategy from here?

The new TVS Board is looking forward to providing support and guidance to the new HOS in the review of the current long-term vision and growth strategy, and any modifications that are deemed necessary by the Head of School.

  • Does the church plan on closing the school?

No. North Naples Church created The Village School in 2000, and we are excited about the future of the school on our campus; and aside from guaranteeing a quality education, our leadership promises transparency in all we do so you can feel great about where you are choosing to support, work, or send your children for their education.

  • Why is the church involved in appointing a new board?

The school’s bylaws have always stipulated that all members of The Village School Board of Trustees must be approved by a Charge Conference of the North Naples United Methodist Church. Due to the surprise from the outgoing Board and Head of School resignations, the Board of Stewards had to act quickly to appoint an interim Board.  The members of that Board will be expanded during the year to provide more direct representation from the parents and supporters of TVS.

  • What will the governance structure look like, and who will serve in those roles?

A transitional board will serve for the 2026-2027 school year and will consist of:

    • Wayne VandeWall, Chair

    • Fred Oss, Vice Chair

    • Ron Gustason, Treasurer

    • Ken Krier, Governance Chair

    • Lindsay Dolce, Secretary

    • Beverly Dubin

    • Jason Rundorff

The governance structure remains the same since the school’s inception 26 years ago.

  • Will there be changes to the curriculum, staffing, leadership, or school culture for the 26-27 academic year?

The decision of the curriculum, staffing and creating the school culture will be the responsibility of the new Head of School.  The new TVS Board is fully supportive of this responsibility.  The North Naples Church will continue to offer their support in teaching the Christian principles to TVS students as is currently done.

  • Will the school still maintain its accreditation?

The new board does not plan to deviate from any of the accreditation standards required, but still needs to fully understand those standards and will be collaborating with the Florida Council of Independent Schools over the coming weeks to better understand the requirements.

  • Are there any changes to tuition, fees, or financial management?

There will be no change to the 2026-2027 tuition and fees previously set.

  • Is North Naples Church a United Methodist Church?

Yes. North Naples Church has been part of The Florida Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church since the denomination’s inception in 1968.

  • Is Quest being cancelled?

Quest is a valuable program both to TVS and the community.  It will continue to operate under the current management guidance and be supported by the new Head of School and Board.

  • Is the Church selling any land?

North Naples Church currently owns a small 8.5 acre parcel of land in eastern Collier County, near I-75, that is agricultural land. The church has been approached by Conservation Collier with an offer to purchase it to contribute to the conservation program. No other land sales are in consideration.

  • Why did the former TVS Board resign?

We have not been privy to the internal discussions of the outgoing Board or the reasons behind their decision to resign en masse. What we do know is that, in light of the multiyear increases in subsidy provided to TVS, the Board of Stewards requested standard information typically expected from a subordinate organization.

These requests were not fulfilled. After continued efforts to obtain this information, the TVS Board chose to resign rather than provide the requested documentation.

  • What was the request for information that has become the reason why TVS board members say they resigned; and did they produce any of the information requested?

    2/27/26

The NNC Board sent a formal request for information from the TVS board.  The list included no medical, personnel, or other protected information. (The actual letter is available at the bottom of this section.) Due date was 3/13/26.  As the financial condition of the school was a concern, this request also restricted the TVS board from making large contracts, payments or amendments to contracts over $100,000 without prior approval.

    3/10/26

The TVS Board requested additional time to put the information together.   An extension was granted.

    3/31/26

Dr. Chapman issued a note to the NNC board that some files had been accumulated and put in a dropbox for viewing—but those files were already known or were PDFs of other reports and not capable of being opened for audit or detailed examination.

    4/2/26

Legal Counsel for the TVS Board, Ian Holmes,  gave notice to North Naples Church that no additional information would be coming unless the NNC Board signed Non-Disclosure agreements. These agreements would have made all findings secret, even if there were inaccuracies or fraud in the documents.   It also was a release and that the school “was not liable for accuracy or completeness of the records.”

    4/23/26

Following the appointment of the new TVS board, the new Chairman called Dr. Chapman to discuss and review the same information previously requested.  A voice response was that he was out of town at a FCIS event.  That afternoon a letter was received stating that Dr. Chapman was on personal leave for recuperation and could not perform his duties as the Head of School during that period.

Neither the Old TVS Board or the previous Head of School complied with the documentation request; other than a few summary reports placed into a dropbox folder on March 31st.

You can see the actual letter HERE.
  • Who is the incoming Head of School?

Dr. Jeff Cavallo has been appointed as incoming Head of School at The Village School of Naples. Dr. Cavallo is a respected and experienced independent school leader who has already been serving our community and brings a deep understanding of our mission, students, and culture.

  • It was stated at the Town Hall that the school did not pay for their use of the church campus, but $750,000 was listed as usage for the 2023 tax return?

The $750,000 that was listed as “USAGE FEES” by the school helped to cover costs for items the school used on campus such as custodial services, power, water, trash as well as landscaping.  The $750,000 did not pay for all the expenses that the church has because of the school being on property—including such items as liability and property insurance, debt service for the school buildings, maintenance on the property that the school uses, or general site improvements and maintenance (such as parking lots, roofs, etc.).

In total, the school costs the church just short of $1,000,000 for being on property, and that does not include any amount for true RENT for usage of the facilities.  When Mr. VandeWall stated the school had not paid any rent to the church, that statement is true, as the school simply helps cover some of their own costs.    The church is looking for the school to help cover more of their own costs; it is not looking for the school to pick up the total amount.

  • Specifically when will TVS parents be represented on the TVS Board? Will these parents need to be members of North Naples Church?

TVS parents will be recommended for the TVS Board, and submitted for approval by a Charge Conference of the Church, this fall.  The TVS By-Laws require at least 75% of the total Board be composed of members, in good standing, of the Church, as reflected in the membership rolls of the North Naples United Methodist Church, Inc.  Parent board members need not be Church members as long as the 75% overall requirement is met. You can see the actual TVS by-laws at the bottom of this section.

  • I have additional questions not answered here, how can I ask those questions?
